Merriam Turkey Characteristics

Merriam turkey's are known for their distinguished fan feathers with the white tipped fan feathers and blacker appearance with blue, purple, and bronze reflections throughout their body feathers. The Merriam’s we hunt are pure and have exceptionally white fans.  Adult toms average 22 pounds and can weigh up to 30.  They inhabit a variety of terrain in this part of the state.  You will find them in hay fields, cottonwood river bottoms, hawthorn thickets,  aspen groves and all the way up into the mountains.  While hunting them you are likely to encounter elk, Shiras moose, mule deer and if you lucky a mountain lion or a black bear.
